Why a Digital Media Lab?
Technology and collaboration skills are essential for many careers in the 21st century workplace. The Digital Media Lab provides space for students to create and edit multimedia projects that incorporate graphic design, audio, and video elements. Students will also be able to collaborate on projects and refine presentations, skills which will prepare them for the real world.
Phase 1
Phase 1 of the DML opened in February, 2011. The library has set up three iMacs loaded with audio, video and design software including:
- Adobe Design Premium CS5 (Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash, Acrobat, Fireworks)
- Final Cut Express, Adobe Premiere Elements, iMovie, Handbrake
- Audacity, Garage Band
The DML also has a scanner, headphones, and an analog-digital converter.
Phase 2
Phase 2, which will rely on the generosity of the 2011 Senior Class Gift Campaign will expand the possibilities of the DML. The space will be enlarged and renovated, and better integrated into the library.
The Presentation Room will feature a 60" plasma screen where students can test out their presentations.
The Collaboration Room will have wall-mounted 32" LC monitors for group work. Students will be able to gather around a table and hook up their laptops to a central docking station. When linked to the LCD, students can take turns displaying their ideas and content.
